The Dainty Foods mill in Windsor, Ontario is Canada's only rice milling facility.

When rice comes in from the farmers fields, it is ushered through a series of cleaning machines, which separate the kernels from any debris. It is then sent on its way through a multifaceted processing journey. The outcome is brown rice, with the bran layers still surrounding the kernel.

White rice is the result of further milling process done at Windsor Mill, which rubs the grains together under pressure. This abrasion removes the bran layers, revealing white or "polished" rice.

Dainty's parboiled rice has gone through a steam pressure process before it is milled. The rice is parboiled in the hull, which softens the kernel and allows the surface starch, bran and other nutrients and components to blend together. The water is drained and the rice is carefully dried. The hull is then removed, and the kernels are polished.

The Dainty Foods Mill uses laser sorters that look for discolored kernels or deeds and sort them from the whole kernels of rice. The use of leading technology such as this, is what has earned Dainty a reputation for its high quality rice products.
