Rice is a natural convenience food. Once opened, uncooked rice can be stored on the shelf in an airtight, sealed container. Most forms of rice have the same storage life except for brown rice, which has a shorter shelf life, due to the bran layers which contain oil that could become rancid over time. It is, therefore, recommended that, once opened, brown rice be stored in a refrigerated state for longer shelf life.

Cooked rice can be refrigerated for up to seven days, or stored in the freezer for six months. Re-heating is a snap. Just place one cup cooked rice in a covered saucepan with 3 tablespoons of water over low heat (for two cups of rice, use five tablespoons of water). In just five minutes it will be hot and fluffy like freshly cooked rice.
